I am a professional chess player. Every year I play in a couple dozen USCF Grand Prix tournaments and a few national level competitions. For four years in a row (2002 - 2005) I qualified to play in the US Closed Championship, which once a year combines 64 best players in the country to compete for the title of a national champion.

During the last six years, I regularly was among the top finishers of the annual Grand Prix contest which assigns points to winners of various tournaments proportionally to the guaranteed prize fund of the tournament. In 2004, I finished 8th in the country.

Since 1999, I have won over 60 Grand Prix tournaments, including four Pennsylvania state championships (while working on my Ph.D. at Penn State). I have beaten many of the strongest players in the country, including Hikaru Nakamura, Alex Stripunsky, Alex Ivanov, and quite a few other GMs.

I was awarded the second highest world chess title of International Master by World Chess Federation (FIDE) in 2002. I have not yet achieved the highest Grandmaster title, but I hope that now, having obtained my doctoral degree, I will have more time and opportunities to concentrate on this goal.
