In numerous studies chess has been shown to have multiple educational benefits for children and adults, such as improving memory and logical thinking, development of visualization skills, and many other qualities that are essential for successful career in almost any modern field. Chess, along with other brain-stimulating activities, is also known to prevent Alzheimer's disease in older people.
Having been taught in my youth under the legendary Soviet chess education system, particularly by Vladimir Vulfson, one of the coaches of the Dvoretsky Chess School (which is widely considered to be the best chess school in the world), I am very familiar with various effective approaches of teaching chess and know what real chess training is about.
I had many successful private students over the last few years. Raghav Ramesh, who never played in tournaments before he became my student in the fall of 2003, won the U1400 section of the World Open (and $6,000!) in July 2004. Also, I taught chess in various elementary and middle schools in New York City area.
